Oakland University launches new Student Success Corridor
The move to centralize offices that serve students both in and out of the classroom also aims to make collaboration between departments more fluid and allow students to interact with these offices close to one another.

The Division of Student Affairs and Diversity has announced the creation of a new Student Success Corridor aimed at re-imagining engagement throughout the student life cycle.

Now referred to as the Student Success Corridor, these departments include the Academic Success Center (formerly known as the Tutoring Center), Career Services, Center for Multicultural Initiatives, Dean of Students Office, Disability Support Services, Enrollment Management, First Year Advising Center, Golden Grizzlies Pantry, Office of Student Involvement, Office of the Registrar, Orientation and New Student Programs, Student Financial Services, Student Technology Center, the Gender and Sexuality Center and Undergraduate Admissions.

Returning students will find these offices between the new Wilson Hall addition, North Foundation Hall and the Oakland Center.

Institutional success will continue to be defined by the ability to attract new students, effectively engage and educate them, graduate them and inspire their ongoing support as alumni.

Investing in the Student Success Corridor will directly affect student recruitment, student retention, graduation rates, career readiness and long-term leadership, enabling Oakland University to provide graduates with more opportunities for productive and fulfilling careers.

Enrollment, academic success, student support services, and campus life are all pieces of the same puzzle - the student life cycle. By treating them as such, OU can meet students' evolving needs and maintain continuity from recruitment to graduation.

The move to centralize offices that serve students both in and out of the classroom also aims to make collaboration between departments more fluid and allow students to interact with these offices close to one another.

Career Services Senior Director Wayne Thibodeau already sees the positive effects that the redistribution has created.

“This summer has brought a tremendous amount of opportunities to collaborate between our Student Success Corridor departments,” Thibodeau said. “From creating committees dedicated to bringing new voices to the table to establishing what we hope to be a yearly welcome back celebration, the refreshed energy in our spaces will carry forward into the new academic year and beyond.”

Kicking off the fall semester is the first annual Student Success Welcome Back Party, sponsored by Oakland University Credit Union. The celebration will take place on Thursday, September 1, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the Oakland Center, North Foundation Hall, and the new Wilson Addition. Students will enjoy free food, a professional DJ, a photo booth, a scavenger hunt raffle, and an opportunity to rediscover student success departments in their existing and updated locations.
