This year marks the 19th Oakland University Diverse Voices Conference and to keep the tradition going, the event will be presented virtually via Zoom. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, March 13 and will run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This year’s conference Theme is “Defining the Role of Social Justice in Practice.” The keynote speaker will be Dr. Marilyn Y. Byrd, a social justice expert from the University of Oklahoma.

“Our aim with the annual Diverse Voices conference is to provide a supportive forum for Oakland University students, faculty, staff and community members to learn about and speak out in support of valuing all aspects of human diversity,” said conference founder/president Professor Chaunda L. Scott from the School of Education and Human Services.
Additional guest speakers at this year’s event include: Chelesea Lewellen, a Ph.D. student in the higher education program at the University of Southern Illinois and select graduate and undergraduate students from Oakland University’s departments of Counseling and Human Resource Development.
Entertainment will be provided by Spoken Word Artist Jeni De La O. There is no charge to attend this year’s Diverse Voices Conference and the event is open to the public via a Zoom link that will be available after March 1 and added to this story.
