Oakland University recently launched a new “Ask Grizz!” chatbot feature on the OU website that will provide an opportunity for the university to connect with prospective students and families 24/7, and provide answers to common questions, as well as general OU information.
“We felt it was important to offer a resource that was available around the clock, in order to best serve students and families in a time when most are participating in the college search process virtually,” said Shane Lewis, director of Undergraduate Admissions at OU.
“This is one of many ways students can interact with us and ask questions in order to get immediate responses. It adds additional quick help when staff may otherwise be unavailable, for example on a holiday or overnight.”
According to Lewis, students may “Ask Grizz” general questions about OU admissions, registration and financial aid. If “Grizz” cannot answer the questions, the chatbot will have OU staff follow up with the student via email.
“The chatbot is always learning new information and will continue to improve its responses over time, as it learns the most common questions from students and families,” Lewis said.
“Ask Grizz!” is currently available on the Undergraduate Admissions, Office of the Registrar, and Student Financial Aid pages on the Oakland University website.
