Oakland University bringing Living Learning Communities on campus for fall

Oakland University Housing will be offering new Living Learning Communities this fall at Hillcrest Hall.

Students will now have the opportunity to apply for housing assignments in the Lavender Village, Ubuntu Village or the Business Honors Program community.

“Our new Living Learning Communities are dynamic residential spaces where students with similar interests, passions and academic pursuits can live, learn and grow together,” said Robert King, Senior Director of University Housing. “We envision this as more than a home away from home. It will be a community where knowledge is gained and lifelong friendships and connections are made.”

The Lavender Village has generated great interest already with current and incoming students and will provide an identity supported living experience to members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies.

The Ubuntu Village will offer a supportive residential opportunity to underrepresented minority students and those seeking to discover and celebrate racial and ethnic diversity.

Members of the Business Honors Cohort will also have the opportunity to be with fellow program Business Honors students who share common classes and their academic journeys.

King added, “While Oakland has offered, and will continue to offer, special interest housing floors by academic interest and our amazing Honors College housing experience, there is a new excitement on campus and within our University Housing staff about the ability to further expand into new Living Learning Communities on campus beginning in the Fall 2024 semester.”

Students can also register now to live in a living learning community this coming fall when they apply for housing online.

Anyone with questions can also contact the University Housing department by calling (248) 370-3570 or emailing [email protected]

In addition to the new Living Learning Communities, students can also consider living in a wide range of housing options. These include: general residence halls, student apartments, Greek Cottages, and special interest floors for incoming freshmen considering a major in Business, Engineering and Computer Science and Health Sciences. An exclusive Honors College community is available to admitted members of the Honors College Program, and gender inclusive housing is also available which provides interested students the opportunity to share a room or suite regardless of students’ sex, gender, gender expression, or gender identity.
