The organization recognizes institutions of higher learning for dedication to student veterans and dependents using their G.I. Bill and other educational benefits.

Native Howl, a “thrash grass” band consisting of OU alumni Alex Holycross and Mark Chandler, as well as Josh LeMieux and Jake Sawicki, recently headlined a show at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit and will be joining rock legends Roger Daltrey, Kansas, Buddy Guy, 38 Special, Dave Davies, Foghat, The Outlaws, Nazareth, and more for the “Rock Legends Cruise VII” from Feb. 14-18.

Dance major Ernesto Duran-Gutierrez was honored Jan. 21 as one of the 2019 Keeper of the Dream Award winners. Established in 1993, The Keeper of the Dream Awards Celebration pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for his pioneering work on behalf of civil rights. Duran-Gutierrez is one of nine students that will be recognized for helping to break down stereotypes and promote racial and cultural understanding.

In celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., OUWB students spent the week of Martin Luther King Jr. Day participating in a series of volunteer activities, including the Health Fair and Taste Fest at Chandler Park Academy, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, and the Reach Out & Read event at the Beaumont Children’s Hospital in Royal Oak.
