Music Prep students welcome composer to spring recital
Oakland University Music Preparatory Division students will welcome composer and African drummer Kofi Ameyaw to their spring recital on Sunday, April 27, 12:30 p.m., at Varner Recital Hall. Children ages 2 to 12 from Early Childhood Music, Drum Circle, Piano Readiness and Little Pianists are taught by highly trained music education graduates and current students, and their main goal is to build a solid foundation for strong musical understanding, whatever their age and experience level.
Drum Circle students will perform a composition by Ameyaw, a native of Ghana. Like the students, he began his musical career at a very young age and was introduced to many styles of African and other style of international music. Kofi started playing with the world-renowned Pan-African Youth Orchestra and was soon promoted to the senior orchestra, performing at major venues in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and other countries throughout Europe. He teaches different styles of African music, privately and at various schools and universities in the U.S.
