The Oakland University Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group (AAPI ERG) invites all faculty and staff to join an online discussion with Asian American painter Siyan Wong from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, May 23.

Born in a small city in China in 1974, Siyan immigrated to the United States in 1985. Her parents later left China with the belief that there were better opportunities for themselves and their children in the United States.

Pursuing a life as an artist, Wong has created paintings that explore the human experience with a focus on issues facing women, the working poor, elderly and homeless. Ultimately, she asks, “What is justice?” and “What is happiness?"

During her interaction with the OU community, and in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Month, Wong will discuss, "Just Another Immigrant's Aspiration: Right to Happiness and World Peace." Those interested in attending are asked to register in advance.
