Colleagues,
It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the death of Dr. David J. Downing, who passed away on June 15, 2024.
Dr. Downing joined the Oakland University community on August 15, 1977, in the Department of Mathematics. During his tenure, he received the 1983 Teaching Excellence Award and the 1984 Michigan Association of Governing Boards Distinguished Faculty Award.
He served as the Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and later served as the College of Arts and Sciences Dean until his retirement on July 1, 2014.
