Algea HarrisonIt is with deep sadness that I inform you of the death of Professor Algea Harrison, who joined the university in the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences in 1970 after teaching in the Detroit Public School System.

Professor Harrison was the first African American professor of psychology at Oakland, and was also named a trustee Emeritus by New Detroit after serving for 28 years, including as Chair, on the Racial and Economic Justice Committee. She retired from Oakland in on August  of 2008.

A service has already been held for Professor Harrison. On behalf of the entire University community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire Harrison family and friends during this very difficult time.
