It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the death of Professor Emeritus Thomas W. Casstevens, who passed away on February 12, 2022.
Dr. Casstevens joined the Oakland University community in the department of Political Science on July 1, 1968. During his tenure here at OU, he served as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Dr. Casstevens was Chair for the Department of Political science until his retirement in June of 1998.
According to a 2014 obituary for Dr. Casstevens' wife, Jeanne, the couple met at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and married shortly after. They then came to Michigan, where he earned a doctorate in political science from Michigan State University.
Dr. Casstevens was described as a “wonderfully supportive husband” and was the father of Willa and Margot. He and Jeanne also had three grandsons.
The family has already held a private memorial service for Dr. Casstevens. A video memorial is available online.
The University community extends heartfelt condolences to the Casstevens family and friends during this very difficult time.
