It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the death of Irene Spanos who passed away on March 27, 2021. Ms. Spanos joined the Oakland University community on December 10, 2018, in the division of University Advancement. During her tenure, she was the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations until her passing.
Mike Westfall, vice president for university advancement, said "Possessing so many gifts, Irene was a trusted colleague, valued friend and dedicated mother."
He also described Ms. Spanos as a proven leader and strong community relationship builder.
"Her positive attitude, can-do spirit and effortless ability to build relationships towards a common goal will forever be a model for those fortunate enough to have known her. Irene was a force for good, and she will be greatly missed."
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church located at 760 W. Wattles in Troy. A funeral will commence at 11 a.m.
