Celebration of Life for Daryl Blackburn
Daryl Blackburn served as the Coordinator of Leadership and Service Programs in the Office of Student Involvement until his passing.

A Celebration of Life for Daryl Blackburn will be held on campus from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21 in Banquet Room A of Oakland Center.

Mr. Blackburn joined the Oakland University community on May 26, 2014, in the Division of Student Affairs & Diversity as the CORE Ambassador, Center for Multicultural Initiatives.

Daryl completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at OU. During his time as an undergraduate student, he held numerous student leadership positions, leaving a lasting impact on the campus community. His remarkable achievements culminated in him being awarded the prestigious Keeper of the Dream Award Scholarship.

As a graduate assistant in the Office for Student Involvement (OSI), Daryl showcased his unique ability to connect with and serve students. Recognizing his exceptional skills, he was soon appointed a full-time employee of OSI, where he served as the Coordinator of Leadership and Service Programs until his passing.

President Ora Hirsch Pescovitz told the OU community that "Daryl’s infectious smile, positive energy, unwavering enthusiasm and deep dedication to Oakland University will be greatly missed. His legacy will continue to inspire and empower students and student organizations, leaving an indelible mark on their lives."

A viewing for Mr. Blackburn will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the James H. Cole Funeral Home – NW Chapel, located at 16100 Schaefer Highway, Detroit, MI 48235.

A Family Hour will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, followed by a Funeral Service commencing at 11 a.m. at Life Application Ministries located at 31601 Schoenherr Road, Warren, MI 48088.
