Biography

Emily Francis spent 15 years as a high school English teacher in Toledo Public Schools in Toledo, Ohio, before joining the Department of Writing and Rhetoric at Oakland University. She has dedicated her teaching career to urban education and helping students successfully transition from high school to college. She spent six years at Toledo Early College High School, teaching and co-designing a unique curriculum in collaboration with the University of Toledo English department that enabled students to complete the high school curriculum in two years and earn their remaining credits at the university level. She brings a unique understanding to how to bridge the gap between high school and college to her first-year writing classroom.
