Biography


D.R. Hammontree holds a Ph.D. in English Studies (with an emphasis in Cultural Rhetoric) and a M.S. in English from Illinois State University. He also has a B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois Springfield.

Much of his research has been on writing pedagogy and cultural rhetoric. His initial research focused on the role perceptions of socioeconomic status play in a critical classroom setting. He also writes about comic books, contributing to various popular culture reference publications.

He has taught in public, private, and two-year institutions and is a past president of the Michigan Council of Teachers of English.
