Top candidates for new CAS dean visit campus, meet community

As Oakland University administrators have conducted a national search for a new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, four top candidates have emerged. These candidates are scheduled to visit campus and make a presentation. 

The Oakland University community is invited to attend each candidate's public presentation.

Search committee members include Search Committee Chair Todd Shackelford, professor and chair of the Psychology Department, Eddie Cheng, professor and chair of Mathematics and Statistics Department, Christopher Clason, professor of Modern Languages and Literature, Rose Cooper, associate professor in the Communication and Journalism Department, Sandra Dykstra, assistant dean of CAS, Todd Estes, associate professor and chair of the History Department, Anne Hitt, associate professor in the Biology Department, Tamara Jhashi, acting dean of CAS, Adriene Lim, dean of Kresge Library, Joseph Shively, associate professor, Music, Theatre & Dance, Gopalan Srinivasan, Distinguished Professor in the Physics Department, and Scott Crabill, interim vice provost for Undergraduate Education and associate professor of Communication and Journalism.

The firm Academic Search has been selected to conduct the search in conjunction with a 12-member search committee. 

Finalists for the position of Dean of College of Arts and Sciences:

  • James Meernik, professor, Political Science Department, University of North Texas. Dr. Meernik's presentation is set for 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, in the Oakland Center Banquet Room B.
  • Kathleen Tiemann, interim dean, College of Arts and Sciences, University of North Dakota. Dr. Tiemann's presentation will run from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, in the Oakland Center Gold Room C.
  • Kevin Corcoran, professor, Department of Psychological Science, Northern Kentucky University. Dr. Corcoran's presentation is scheduled for 2-3 p.m. on Monday, April 1.
  • John La Duke, dean, College of Natural and Social Sciences, University of Nebraska at Kearney. Dr. La Duke's presentation is set for 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 in the Oakland Center Gold Room C.
