OU’s annual Road March to End Hunger supports homeless veterans

Student Veterans of Oakland University is hosting its third annual Road March to End Hunger on Friday, Sept. 8. The event, which takes place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on OU’s Rochester campus, encourages the OU community and public to donate food and other items to help local veterans who are homeless.
The event will start with a 9/11 memorial ceremony in front of North Foundation Hall, followed by a one-mile walk around campus. Participants are invited to carry their donations in a backpack on the walk to symbolize the weight that veterans – particularly homeless veterans – bear. The walk will begin and end in front of North Foundation Hall.
“We will have refreshments for participants to enjoy while they make their donations,” said Kyle McIntosh, treasurer of Student Veterans of OU. “People are more than welcome to continuously walk the route for exercise or simply stop by to drop off a donation.”
Suggested donations include nonperishable food items, toiletries and new or gently-used clothing. All donations will support the work of Emmanuel House, a Detroit-based nonprofit that provides housing, substance abuse treatment and job placement services to homeless veterans. Road March to End Hunger T-shirts will be available for a discounted price, with all proceeds going to Emmanuel House.
The event is sponsored by the Oakland University Student Congress, Student Program Board, Barnes and Noble at Oakland University, Alpha Delta Pi, and Theta Chi.
