Microsoft Office 365 Education
What is Office 365 Education?
Microsoft Office 365 Education for students, faculty, and staff is a service that enables access to a suite of Office 365 cloud products as well as download and install of the full Office Productivity Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more. The software can be made available on up to 5 personal devices.

To create a new Office 365 Education account
- Visit office.com/GetOffice365.
- Click through to sign up with your Oakland University email address.
- You should receive an email from the Office 365 team. Click the “Finish signing up for Office 365 Education” link provided in the email.
- Complete the registration information.
- At the Office 365 home screen you can choose “Install Now” to download the Office Productivity Suite on your device, or select the desired icon to use an Office Online service in your web browser.
Please note, this process will create an Office 365 Education account that is tied to your OU email identity. The password for this account is separate from your NetID password.
If you have an existing Office 365 Education account
- Visit https://portal.office.com
- Enter your OU address and Office 365 password
Your Office 365 Education account will be terminated the same time as your NetID. The account termination guidelines for the NetID accounts can be found on our Access, Accounts and Password Guidelines page. At the time of account deletion, all data and information stored in the cloud service will no longer be accessible or recoverable.
Faculty and staff are reminded to review Policy #860 Information Security before storing data in cloud services, including any Office 365 Education product. Office 365 Education may be used only for materials and information that are not Confidential, and not covered by HIPAA, FERPA, PHI or other similar regulations. Office 365 should be considered a personal service not suitable for official university or departmental business. Prior to use, please review the posted Security Information.
Any agreement that is presented by an Office 365 service is an agreement between you and a hosted solution. As such, this service is provided as is and is outside the control of Oakland University or University Technology Services.
Microsoft provides free Office 365 training on their Office Training Center.
