Banner Training

Shared Data Training
for Banner Access
All users need to take a training course and pass a short examination for Banner access. This is an absolute requirement if you will be changing names and addresses, or other Shared Data elements, in Banner. University Policy 218 requires employees with maintenance access to shared data to complete the Shared Data Training and exam annually. Failure to complete the training may result in revocation of access to applicable Banner access.

This training is available for OU employees through the Cornerstone Learning Management System. Your NetID and password are required to login. The estimated time required to complete the training is approximately 1 hour.

Once you are in the Shared Data Training course, you will be able to navigate through the training materials at your own pace. Once you feel comfortable, you can open and take the Shared Data exam, which you will need to pass with a score of 80% or above. You will get two chances to take the exam.

Once you have passed the exam, print out your scores and give them to your supervisor.

Student Employees:
Supervisors who have student employees needing training in Shared Data Training should contact Cissie Patterson, Training Coordinator, at cmpatterson@oakland.edu to request access. Please include the student employee's name, email address and department for which they will be working. Student employees are unable to access the Cornerstone Learning system and will need to be manually registered by HR.

Banner Training at Oakland University


New employees who would like to receive 'Navigating in Banner' training should contact yourlearning@oakland.edu to request a one-on-one training session. This training is also available online in the Banner On-Demand Subscription Training Library via the Ellucian HUB. Banner training on specific Banner screens should be done at the departmental level.



Banner On-Demand Subscription Training Library


An Ellucian HUB website login is required to access the Banner On-Demand Subscription Training Library.  The HUB provides a gateway to many Banner resources, including the eCommunities forums and Banner Support Center. 

If you do NOT have a HUB login, please register for one by following the HUB registration link below.

Anyone with an OU email address can access the HUB for Banner training. Your access to the Banner On-Demand Subscription Library will available within 1-2 business days after you receive and activate your new HUB login.

If you already have a HUB login, you can access the Banner On-Demand Subscription Library, please follow these steps:

Log in to the Ellucian HUB website by clicking here.

  1. Scroll down and click on Site Resources.

  2. Review the 'Using the Ellucian Training Site Channel' resources. This will help you navigate the system.

  3. Using the search bar at the top of the navigation screen, search for the Banner E-Learning you wish to review. Start by searching for 'Banner Overview and Navigation' E-Learning.

  4. Choose 'Enroll' from the right-hand side of the screen. Then select 'Start Learning Now'.

  5. If you have any difficulties in navigating the Ellucian HUB website, or need to contact a Training Coordinator, please reach out to Learning & Organizational Development at yourlearning@oakland.edu.
