The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge around the globe and close to home. At Oakland University, we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff. We are also working tirelessly to extend resources that can help our community.

You can help in a variety of ways:

  • OU Student Relief Fund – provide immediate support to help students experiencing unexpected hardships
  • OUWB Student Emergency Fund – help medical students with essential expenses such as housing, food and basic living needs
  • Campus Community Engagement Fund – help OU work alongside community partners to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens
  • OU Employee Hardship Fund – assist OU team members whose families have been impacted by the pandemic

Together we are all Oakland Strong, and OU is finding innovative ways for the entire community to help. For more information on what OU is doing in the community and how you can help, visit the OU COVID-19 Response News page or the OU Emergency Response Team COVID page

CARES Act Expands Tax Deductions for Charitable Giving

Beginning with 2020 tax returns, all taxpayers will be able to claim up to $300 in cash contributions to charity as a deduction without itemizing. The CARES Act incentivizes Americans who are in a position to help others in need with a new “above-the-line” charitable deduction. This means that taxpayers will be able to claim up to $300 in cash contributions to a nonprofit this year. This deduction is from gross income for those who take the standard deduction on their 2020 tax return and will ultimately reduce the amount of taxable income.
