The online Ed.S. in Educational Leadership degree is designed for building/program administrators, teachers and central office staff who wish to gain knowledge and skills in school leadership and administration. The 34-credit, two-year (seven semesters), post-master’s degree program is available for part-time distance learning study. The program is practical and offered with the working administrator in mind. Upon successful program completion, students may apply for the State of Michigan Department of Education’s Building/Principal Endorsement. In addition, this program satisfies the cognate requirement for the Ed.D. in Leadership or the Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. The Ed.S. is a rigorous program designed to prepare educators as administrative leaders in public and private schools.

According to a study of Oakland University program graduates, 93% reported the program helped them in their current positions by increasing competencies and professional abilities, preparing them well for administrative roles. In addition, 97% of graduates identified the benefits of the Ed.S. as providing opportunities for higher salary and networking. This study also found that 97% of graduates identified benefits as the program’s outstanding reputation and opportunity to study in a cohort model.

All classes are delivered online with a mentorship and action research taking place in your local geographic area to provide flexibility and relevance for working professionals. Field experience is a critical part of the learning experience. Courses are taught by faculty with extensive experience as school leaders, such as by current superintendents, central office administrators, principals, or specialists for courses about school law, program evaluation, and school public relations. Students are fully supported by Oakland University’s e-Learning and Instructional Support with an online orientation for students and Moodle (online course management program) assistance. Further Kresge Library offers online access services, to databases, document delivery and obtaining help over live chat.
