Campus Health and Wellness

Staying healthy is one of the best ways to be successful during your time at OU and beyond. There are a number of resources on campus that can assist you with improving, enhancing and/or maintaining a healthy lifestyle. 

Graham Health Center

The Graham Health Center (GHC) provides convenient, affordable, high quality health care right on campus. They are staffed by certified nurse practitioners and physician assistants who have extensive education and clinical training. The GHC provides acute care as well as preventative care services, including but not limited to contraceptive management, wellness checks and immunization administration. They sell over-the-counter pain relief and cold and flu medications, first aid kits, and condoms. Most insurances are accepted. In addition to providing health care, Graham Health Center offers other services such as:

  • iPause and stress relief workshops
  • Smoking cessation services
  • Wellness coaching

Lowry Center for Early Childhood Education

Oakland University offers on-campus childcare to its students, faculty, staff and community members at the Lowry Center for Early Childhood Education. For children from 18 months to five years of age, Lowry provides the newest innovative equipment, materials and practices to cultivate the development of young children. Lowry is part of the School of Education and Human Services, is administered by the Department of Human Development and Child Studies and is licensed by the State of Michigan.

*Please note: the Lowry Center is affiliated with Oakland University, however it is not a free service.

OU Counseling Center

The Oakland University Counseling Center, located in the Graham Health Center, provides short-term counseling services to students and staff. For all OU students, the first six sessions are free. After that, session costs are only $12 per visit. The OU Counseling Center provides a broad range of services to assist with mental health, including:

  • Personal counseling
  • Psychological and psychoeducational testing
  • Career testing and counseling
  • Substance abuse evaluation, treatment and prevention
  • Consultation and outreach
  • Crisis intervention

University Recreation and Well-Being

University Recreation and Well-Being, commonly known as the Rec Center, serves all of your health and well-being needs. Membership is included in your tuition each semester.

Some of the facilities and programs you can access are:

  • Fitness center
  • Olympic size pool and hot tub
  • Wellness initiatives
  • Multiple courts
  • Intramural sports
  • Club sports
  • Bike Loan Program
  • Outdoor fields and tennis courts
