Rachel Stevens, M.F.A.

Rachel Stevens is a director, educator and coach based in New York City. She has directed and developed work with theaters, such as The Civilians, Quantum Theatre, City Theatre of Pittsburgh, Ars Nova, SheNYC Festival, NYU, NYMF, Theatre Now, TheatreWorksUSA, New York Film Academy, Front Porch Theatricals and The Pittsburgh Playhouse.

She served as assistant director to Rachel Chavkin on the world premiere of Dave Malloy’s “Preludes” at LCT3, Lincoln Center Theater and Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 (Broadway, A.R.T). Rachel was assistant director to Andy Blankenbuehler on “The Bandstand” (Paper Mill Playhouse); and associate director to Peter Flynn on the New York premiere of “Smart Blonde” (59E59 NYC). Rachel co-conceived the new investigative musical “Desaparecidas” with collaborators Jamie Lozano and Florencia Cuenca, which originated as a part of the Civilians 2020-2021 R&D Writer and Directors Group and received its first workshop at JACK performing arts theater, Brooklyn in 2021.

Rachel worked as a monologue coach with MTCA (Musical Theater College Auditions) in NYC, and has been a teaching artist with the Broadway Jr. Program (NYC), Upper Darby Summer Stage (PA), Imagination Stage, Young Playwrights and ArtStream Access Theater (D.C.). Rachel served on the theater faculty as directing artist in Residence at Concordia College, MN. Rachel has lectured at Point Park University, University of the Arts, and the Actors Studio Drama School. Rachel holds her B.F.A in Musical Theatre from Point Park University, her M.F.A. from the Actors Studio Drama School, NYC, and is a proud SDC associate.
