His research interests emphasize on: Advanced Energy Production, Human Health Exposure Risk Assessment, NanoEHS (nanotechnology), Environmental Quality Assessment and Sustainability, Fire Engineering, Statistical Techniques in EHS Engineering, Hazard Management in Nuclear Safety, Cognitive and Environmental Ergonomics, Risk Management and Solution Innovations, Hazard Management and Systems Safety, Occupational Decision-Making Aspects of EHS. He has won numerous awards and honors as an academic and professional. Richard is certified by the Academy of Board Certified Environmental professional (CEP) and by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Associate Safety Professional (ASP). He is a Book chief editor, book chapter author and has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal publications (22 as first author) on: Environmental Health and Safety, Energy & Mining Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Drilling Innovation and Environmental Health Sciences. He is a University Senator, Chair of Curriculum Committee in Health Sciences, Advisory Board member in the Department of Chemistry, NSF Panel Reviewer on Chemometrics, ABET Commissioner and faculty adviser in the School of Engineering. He has presented at several international & national conferences on petroleum technology, environmental-health, safety, and geoscience.
