Re:      Annual report of the 2002-03 Academic and Career Advising Committee

Date:    June 23, 2003

The members of the 2002-03 Academic and Career Advising Committee were Andrew Baker, student representative, Pat Bennet, Engineering and Computer Science, Scott Crabill, Rhetoric, Communications, and Journalism, Carol Crum, General Studies, Constantine Kontoghiorghes, Human Resources Development, Sarah Mullin, Nursing, Mary Beth Snyder, Student Affairs, Cheryl Sullivan, Arts and Sciences Advising, Steve Wright (chair), Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and Ken York, Management and Marketing. Robert Thomas, Career Services, attended several meetings, acting as Mary Beth Snyder's representative.

The Committee spent most of the year designing a new brochure for advising services at OU. This brochure contains new and up-dated information in a completely new (and improved!) format on all academic and career advising services offered by OU. Pending the availability of sufficient funds, it will be printed and distributed to all relevant persons and offices both on and off campus at the University. In addition to that, Mary Beth Snyder gave an informative and detailed presentation to the Committee on the proposed First- Year Student Advising Center, which elicited a vigorous discussion and several suggestions by Committee members. We ended the year's activities with discussion, revision, and approval of a new advising missions statement.
