Modification to Grading Policy

The S/U grade option was only offered Winter 2020, Fall 2020, and Winter 2021 semesters. This page is for informational purposes only and does not apply to any future terms.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Oakland University recognized the need to create a temporary modification to the grading policy for Winter 2020, Fall 2020, and Winter 2021 semesters only.

Students enrolled in undergraduate courses will be permitted to convert any undergraduate course to satisfactory/unsatisfactory (S/U) grading for the Winter 2021 semester. All courses for which students receive satisfactory (S) or unsatisfactory (U) grades will not be used for calculation of grade point averages. Because each course’s learning experience is different, there is no limit on the number of courses that students can convert to S/U grading. Decisions can be made on a course-by-course basis.

Any failing grades (F) received in Winter 2021 courses will automatically be converted to the unsatisfactory (U) grade. Therefore, students who receive a failing grade (F) should not submit a request form to convert the grade.

Students should be aware that although S/U grading is an option for all courses, it may not be the best choice for everyone. Academic advisers are ready to work with students to determine the best course of action for individual situations. Please read through the FAQs to better assist you in making an informed decision.
