20th Anniversary Celebration

20th Anniversary Celebration

Established in 1998, Oakland University Recreation and Well-Being (OU Rec Well) has shaped the campus culture by getting students, staff, faculty, and community members to move their minds and bodies through over 352 powerful programs impacting over 17,363 individuals each year.

OU Rec Well is the second largest student employer on campus with more than 150 student employees. The Recreation Center, Aquatic Center, and Recreation and Athletic Outdoor Complex serve as a training ground for students to gain real experience working with facilities, programs, and members. The Recreation Center alone boasts 307,882 total visits, which include current students, employees, alumni, community members and future students.

While the department name was Campus Recreation for many years, the name was updated to University Recreation and Well-Being in May 2016 to reflect the integrated mission with recreation and wellness efforts at Oakland. Some of the most notable achievements and examples of recent partnerships include the fall 2018 grand opening of the new Hillcrest residence hall, which includes a 1,600 square foot recreation space that will serve as an extension for OU Rec Well. Furthermore, established partnerships with Environmental Health and Safety, the American Cancer Society, and the CVS Foundation for Tobacco and Smoking Initiatives on Campus granted $20,000 to create a smoke-free campus at OU.

Listed below are events in honor of our 20th Anniversary, and we welcome and are looking forward to connect with all previous, present, and future alumni, students, staff, faculty, and community members.
