Two alumni of the Detroit Edison Public School Academy’s Early College of Excellence, authorized by Oakland University, were recently featured by the Skillman Foundation as among 20 Black Detroiters Making History. Jabari Jefferson, a 2019 graduate and Makiah Shipp, a 2020 graduate were among a group of young people honored for their service, organizing, leadership, and support in their communities. Jabari is currently the City of Detroit’s Deputy Director of the 24-Hour Economy. Makiah was recognized for her work with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib as a field organizer and youth outreach coordinator.
