Interim Associate Provost Anne Hitt, Ph.D., joined the Department of Biological Sciences at Oakland University in 1997. She held the position of assistant professor and then associate professor, and has also served as Biomedical Sciences Program director. In addition, she has been a member of the Center for Biomedical Research.
As a faculty member and principal research investigator, Dr. Hitt was awarded nearly $900,000 in National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF) research grants. She also participated as a co-investigator in Oakland University research endeavors supported by nearly $1.7 million in NIH grants.
Dr. Hitt was appointed as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in February 2014. In this capacity, she has maintained oversight of CAS departments including Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Linguistics; Mathematics and Statistics; Music, Theatre and Dance (now the School of Music, Theatre and Dance); Philosophy, Physics and Psychology. She has also been charged with oversight of CAS graduate programs, the interdisciplinary bachelor and master of liberal arts programs, and the ESL Institute. In addition, she has also served as the point person on the secondary teacher education programs jointly administered by CAS and the School of Education and Human Services.
During her 20-year career at OU, Dr. Hitt has been involved in key administrative activities, committees and initiatives including the Academic Council, Retention Committee, Completion Committee, Grading Scale Task Force, Shared Governance Task Force, Graduate Studies Committee, General Education Committee and more. In sum, she has been a member, adviser or chair on nearly 60 academic and administrative committees and councils.
Prior to joining the OU community, Dr. Hitt held professional positions including senior research associate and postdoctoral fellow at the Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research, as well as life sciences engineer at McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Co. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Missouri St. Louis and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University.
