The Oakland Symphony Orchestra will present their final concert of the season at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 29 at Detroit’s Orchestra Hall.

Along with four soloists, Oakland University Symphony Chorus, Detroit Concert Choir and Madrigal Chorale, the orchestra will also present Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem, which was first performed in 1874 and composed in memory of Alessandro Manzoni, an Italian poet and novelist whom Verdi had admired.

“We could not be more excited to give our students this opportunity,” said Conductor Michael A. Mitchell, a professor of music and director of choral activities at Oakland University. “Performing a truly great piece of music in one of the world's great concert halls will be a magnificent experience for them."

All of the soloists performing during the concert are alumni of the Oakland University Department of Music: Ann Toomey, soprano; Lisa Agazzi, mezzo-soprano; Jason Wickson, tenor; and Joel Frederiksen, bass.

“It is such an honor to be able to come back to perform this incredible piece of music with Oakland University,” said Toomey, who is a current ensemble member of the Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago. “It’s a place that is so near and dear to my heart, and a big part of who I am today."

Tickets are $12 for students and $22 for the general public. They may be purchased online without service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737. They can also be purchased at the Varner Box Office on OU’s campus or at Orchestra Hall one hour before the performance.

Orchestra Hall is in the Max M. Fisher Music Center, at 3711 Woodward Ave., in downtown Detroit. There is a parking structure adjacent to the hall. Directions and parking information is available on the Detroit Symphony Orchestra website.
