OU Graduate School Dean Brandy Randall to serve on Advisory Committee on Advocacy and Public Policy

Dr. Brandy A. Randall, dean of the Graduate School at Oakland University, has been appointed to serve a two-year term as a member of the Council of Graduate Schools’ Advisory Committee on Advocacy and Public Policy. Her term will begin in January 2021.

“I’m excited to serve on this committee, as it gives me an opportunity to bring the types of issues that impact Oakland University graduate students and graduate education to this national group that engages in advocacy at the federal level and supports advocacy at the state level,” Randall said.

The Advisory Committee on Advocacy and Public Policy (ACAPP) plays a critical role in guiding the Council of Graduate Schools’ (CGS) public policy and advocacy portfolio, including:

• Providing guidance on CGS advocacy activities to promote graduate education in the federal policy arena.

• Promoting graduate education to stakeholders, both internal and external, to academic institutions.

• Offering insights to CGS Public Policy and Government Affairs staff on state policy issues impacting graduate education.

“Accessible, affordable, high quality graduate education is an important public good that contributes to the well-being of communities, states, the nation, and the world,” Randall said. “However, because of the imbalance in the number of graduate degree seekers, relative to undergraduate degree seekers, there is the potential that graduate education can be overlooked by policy makers. As a graduate dean, working with the Council of Graduate Schools helps me be a voice for graduate education.”
