NOTE:
Due to forecasts indicating the approach of inclement weather, this evening's candlelight vigil in memory of the people who lost their lives at the Tree of Life Congregation synagogue in Pittsburgh is being relocated to the Winter Garden on the main level of Oakland Center.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to meet at the Oakland Center Winter Garden on campus at Oakland University at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 for a candlelight vigil in memory of the lives lost at the Tree of Life Congregation synagogue in Pittsburgh last weekend.

The event is being hosted in partnership between OU Student Congress and the Jewish Student Organization (JSO)/Hillel.

“Our student leaders came up with the idea and the event has grown organically over the past 48 hours to the point where we have Christian, Muslim and Jewish groups working together to participate in the vigil,” said Senior Director, Office for Student Involvement, Jean Ann Miller.

OU president Ora Hirsch Pescovitz will speak at the event, along with OU students and campus and community leaders from several faiths.

In addition, the Elliott Tower bells will ring 12 times; 11 times for the lives lost in the shooting and one time for all of those injured in the attack.
