Get help with online instruction transition

Wed Nov 11, 2020 at 12:24 PM

Oakland University classes with face-to-face instruction are pivoting to remote instruction starting Monday, Nov. 16, 2020. e-Learning and Instructional Support is here to help faculty and students with tools, resources, workshops and online help to ensure classes continue with little interruption while maintaining OU’s high-quality standards.

Faculty

Our newly updated Faculty Guide for Remote Teaching During Suspended F2F Classes provides information about converting from face-to-face to remote instruction. We also have a full library of help documents and step-by-step videos available from the Help Library

We have also created 11 new workshops to help faculty prepare, 4 are offered this week and 7 next week. There are sessions on setting up a course in Moodle, using Moodle features and remote lecture workshops for information on using Zoom, YuJa and Google Meet.

Our Self-Paced Online Teaching course is also available to those who need to prepare themselves to teach online quickly. It takes about four hours to complete and prepares you to design and facilitate the basics of a quality, fully-online course.

Faculty can also set up a 1-on-1 appointment with our instructional designers to get individual assistance.

Students

To help students transition to learning in a remote environment, we have updated our  Student Guide for Online Learning (rev.10/14/2020). This document provides information about getting logged into Moodle and using the features of Moodle. It also has tips on remote learning as well as links for getting help.

Our Current Students page has links to various tools to help students get the most of their remote education. We have links to productivity tools, tips for online collaboration as well as a comprehensive Help Library with links to step-by-guides as well as videos.

Get Help

For those who need more help, the e-LIS support portal is available from the Get Help button on the top of any page in Moodle. The support portal also has an online chat function for quick questions from our technical support desk.

Phone support is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday as well as 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Call (248) 370-4566 to be directed to the appropriate support staff member.

As we make the transition to remote instruction, we are experiencing a higher than normal call volume and requests, so we appreciate your patience and understanding as we support other members of the OU community.
