Important information for potential students
  • A $700 non refundable deposit is due on or before February 11, 2018.
  • Balance is due by April 30, 2018.
  • You must register for NRS 452 (Scientific Inquiry II) through the normal Oakland University registration process. Books and supplies must be purchased separately.
  • You must be a student in good standing (not on probation)
  • You must have a current United States Passport (If you do not have a current US passport, further information is available on the U. S. State Department website.)
  • Meals not listed in the schedule are on your own. Students will be provided with HUM IDs/card to dine at HUM cafeteria. Estimated cafeteria meal cost is between $2-$4 per day.
  • All accommodations are double occupancy. 
  • Students should plan to bring $350 for incidental expenses such as personal items and uncovered meals.
  • International air travel will be coordinated in Spring 2018 to receive group travel discount. Low-cost and/or student travel may also be available at,, or

NRS 452 (Research Basis for Nursing Practice)

  • Overview
    This course focuses on the research process and evidence-based practice as they relate to professional nursing. This course is reserved for students admitted to the Basic-BSN and the BSN completion sequence. Satisfies the university general education requirement for a writing intensive course in the major. 
    Prerequisite for writing intensive: completion of the university writing foundation requirement. 
  • Course Objectives
    1. Identify the relationship between research and practice.
    2. Identify the components of the research process.
    3. Use an electronic database to retrieve current research literature.
    4. Review published nursing research reports for applicability and usefulness in clinical practice.
    5. Incorporate nursing research findings into planning professional nursing care.
    6. Examine the role of the baccalaureate prepared nurse in the use of research.

The international experience embedded in the course helps the students to observe, to learn and to comprehend the research process and evidence based nursing practice in a real world context. Traditional Chinese medicine and its complimentary treatment remedies and are research topics that students can perform, search for, retrieve and critically examine empirical research from medical and nursing literatures.
