Oakland University is collecting monetary donations on Thursday, Sept. 14 to help the Red Cross in relief efforts for hurricane's Harvey (pictured) and Irma.

The Center for Student Activities and Leadership Development has added a hurricane fundraiser in support of the Red Cross as part of this year’s Student Activity Fee Advisory Council Open House. The event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the mall area between North and South Foundation Halls.

“We added a fundraising piece to the open house because we want to give the OU community an opportunity to do something positive and support the work of the Red Cross on the heels of these devastating storms,” said Jean Ann Miller, director, Center for Student Activities and Leadership Development. “OU loves our neighbors to the south and we are asking for monetary gifts from spare change to big bills and personal checks to gift cards. All will be donated to aid in the restoration efforts following Harvey and Irma.”

Miller said that interested donors can participate in the fundraising efforts beyond the open house hours, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., by visiting a collection table in the “Fishbowl” entrance of South Foundation Hall.

The open house features information about OU’s directly-funded organizations like club sports, the Oakland University Student Council, Student Activities Funding Board, Student Life Lecture Board, Student Program Board, Student Video Production, the Oakland Post student newspaper and WXOU, the student radio station.

The open house will also offer food, music, giveaways and more.
