Rochester Hills Mayor and OU alum Bryan Barnett speaks to members of the 2015 Emerging Leadership Program.

Students interested in participating in Oakland University’s Emerging Leadership Program have until Thursday, Sept. 15 to sign up.

Apply by completing the form here.

The program exists to help OU students develop critical leadership skills and examine important concepts that will help them emerge and move forward as leaders in the campus community.

Students will learn by investigating different leadership models, solving case studies facilitated by OU alumni, and through presenting their solutions to issues that many leaders face during their career.

This year’s guest speakers include:

  • Bryan Barnett, mayor of Rochester Hills

  • Nick Kristock, philanthropist and past captain of the OU Soccer Team

  • Napoleon Harrington, public speaker and founder of Ambassador Counseling

  • Derek Dickow, founder of Steward Media

The program will be offered exclusively to freshmen and sophomores. However, juniors who are new leaders, or have not yet been in leadership position at the college level are also welcome to apply.

All students accepted into the program must attend all sessions held on the following dates from 5-6:20 p.m.: Sept. 28 (Kick-Off/Welcome Reception), Oct. 26, Nov.30, Jan. 25, Jan. 28 (Community Service Project), Feb. 15, March 29, and April 5 (Graduation Reception). Dinner will be provided at all meetings.

Those completing the program will earn a certificate at the “End of the Year Reception,” be endorsed on LinkedIn as a graduate of the Emerging Leadership program, and have the option to become a program consultant/mentor for participants the following year.

Students accepted into the program will attend monthly (1.5 hour) sessions. Applicants will be notified of their selection to participate by Sept. 18.
