International Graduate Student Scholarship - First Time Graduate to Oakland University
Oakland University is seeking qualified applicants for its International Student Scholarship. The Scholarship in the amount of $1500.00 will be awarded to a qualified international student newly admitted to Oakland University. The eligibility criteria for the International Student Scholarship are as follows: DEADLINE: Second Friday in October (Fall Semester) and the second Friday in February (Winter Semester).
  1. Scholarship applicants must be newly admitted first time graduate international students to Oakland University for the semester in which they apply.
  2. Student applicants must intend to be an F-1 or J-1 visa holder to receive the scholarship.
  3. Students should (at a minimum) have the equivalent to a GPA of 3.5 from a previous institution to qualify.
  4. Applicants must demonstrate an active involvement in community service activities in their home country or previous institution; including, but not limited to, student leadership roles, student advocacy, involved in organizing and planning school or community programming, and improving the overall quality of life in their community.
  5. The winner of this scholarship will be required to contribute in a meaningful way to campus activities at Oakland University during their first year here.
  6. A letter of recommendation from a current or previous advisor or professor. Must be included in the packet when you drop it off.
  7. Transfer students currently in the U.S. are eligible.

International Service Award at Oakland University
Oakland University is seeking qualified applicants for its International Service Award. The Scholarship in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded to a qualified Oakland University international student. The eligibility criteria for the Service Award are as follows: DEADLINE for Winter: February 17th, 2017.
  1. Scholarship applicants must be full-time returning Oakland University international students.
  2. Students must have a minimum Oakland GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
  3. Applicants must demonstrate active involvement in out-of-class activities at O.U., including but not limited to student leadership roles, student advocacy, promoting cross cultural programming and improving the overall quality of life of the Oakland community during the year the award is made.

International Students and Scholars Office Staff/Faculty International Service Award
To recognize an Oakland University faculty or staff member for outstanding international service within the United States or abroad in terms of teaching, research, administration, social action, or humanitarian relief.

International Scholarly Achievement Award

Oakland University seeks qualified applicants for the International Scholarly Achievement Award. The $500.00 scholarship is awarded annually to one qualified Oakland University international student whose scholarly excellence is clearly recognized within the academic community. The eligibility requirements are as follows:

Please submit your application by the third Friday in January!

  1. Status as a full-time, returning J-1 or F-1 international student at Oakland University, including undergraduate, graduate, and PhD levels.
  2. Proof of a minimum 3.5 GPA while at OU.
  3. Demonstrated significant scholarly or creative contributions of national or international reputation in a given field during studies at OU, which may include articles, essays, books, other scholarly publications and/or presentations at academic conferences.
  4. One to three sealed letters of recommendation, one page in length, from current or previous OU faculty members.
  5. A typed personal statement (maximum 300 words) describing your academic accomplishments and professional goals.
  6. Résumé or curriculum vitae detailing scholarly accomplishments, including a list of honors you have received (fellowships, scholarships, awards, honorary society memberships, prizes, etc.).

Vicente Fox Scholarship

Created during former President Fox’s visit to Oakland University in June 2004, this scholarship was funded by gifts from a number of corporate donors. The primary support was provided by the Chrysler Foundation and Masco Corporation. Other corporate contributors included ArvinMeritor, Butzel Long, Delphi Foundation, Ford Motor Company Fund and Herman Miller.


Depending upon availability, at least one award of up to $1500.00 is made annually to a student seeking continuing education opportunities, pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at Oakland University, or seeking international study or cross-cultural opportunities in Mexico or the United States. Eligible applicants may be full-time or part-time students, and must be enrolled at and in good standing with Oakland University. Applicants must be a citizen of Mexico and a current or prospective Oakland University student. Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and graduate students must maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA.
