New Undergrad Students Accessing Portal, Moodle, NetID and Email

To begin using computing resources at Oakland University, you need a GRIZZLY ID NUMBER and a NetID (which includes email).

1) Get your Grizzly ID Number and PIN

  • You will receive multiple communications after you are admitted. Please check the second letter sent by the Office of Admissions. This letter should explain your tuition deposit, SAIL login information, OU email address information, and your new student ID number, called a Grizzly ID number.
  • If you cannot locate your second admit letter, please contact the Office of Admissions at (248) 370-3360 and reference that you are missing the second admit letter. Staff members will be happy to assist you.
  • We want you to be successful in submitting your orientation reservation. If you have questions about submitting your orientation reservation, please contact the Orientation Staff via email to <>  or call (248) 370-GOLD. They will be happy to assist you.

  • If you do not know your PIN, click on the link below and follow the instructions. /uts/resetpin

  • If this is your first time creating your PIN number you will need to establish a PIN hint question and answer which you will need to remember.

2) Obtain your NetID and Password

  • Go to and Click on Need to Change Your Password? OR

  • Go to and Click on “Obtain your account or reset your password.”

  • Enter your Grizzly ID and PIN. Your PIN is 6-digits.
  • Create a NetID password, select an 8 - 15 alphanumeric password and enter it in both “New Password and “Verify Password” fields.
    • NOTE: If you plan to sync your account with an email client or hand-held device, the password must be 8 - 15 alphanumeric characters.
  • Click the “Reset Password” button to obtain your NetID account username and email address.

3) Check out SAIL portal

  • Go to and click SAIL in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

  • Enter in your NetID username and password and click Login.
  • Click on SAIL to access Student Services and Financial Aid, click on Registration, click on Select Term. To view your GrizzlyID select the "Academics" Tab and then "My Details" a box will display with your GrizzlyID. Make a note of your Grizzly ID number.
  • You may access EBill, Library, SAIL, Registration, Financial Aid, Moodle and Webmail. Added features include: Search, OU News, Course Schedule, Academic Services, Campus Calendar, and Campus Announcements.

4) Using Email

  • Go to SAIL portal and click on Webmail & OU email account OR

  • Go to

  • Enter your NetID account username and password and click “Webmail Login”
  • You may send and receive email and create email forwarding, filters, etc.

NOTE: The Helpdesk cannot release Grizzly IDs or Pins in email or over the phone, and you should never send that information to anyone via email.
