Keane/Demarest Endowment for Berkley School District Students Online Application

Dr. William Keane, retired associate professor and past interim dean for the School of Education and Human Services, and his wife Geraldine A. Keane have established an endowment in honor of Mrs. Keane’s sister, Irene Demarest. The Keanes have lived a life dedicated to helping others, particularly through the attainment of a quality education. Dr. William Keane served the field of education as a teacher in junior high, high school, community college and university settings, and as a superintendent of the Berkley School District in Oakland County and the Oakland Intermediate School District. At Oakland University he served as program coordinator, department chair and interim dean for two years. Mrs. Geraldine Keane served as a general education and special education teacher in New York and in Clawson Public Schools in Oakland County. 

Dr. and Mrs. Keane have a desire to continue to support students while also honoring Mrs. Keane’s sister, Irene Demarest. The Keane / Demarest Endowment is to support undergraduate students from the Berkley School District who are pursuing a degree in education. An award committee will select the awardee. The winner will be notified of the award by mail. The Keane / Demarest Endowment is renewable for up to four years for recipients who continue to meet the criteria.

This award is renewable each year for up to 4 consecutive years as long as the applicant continues to meet the eligibility criteria, including maintaing a 3.0 GPA in his/her OU coursework.
