The Honorable Michael W. Michalak, CAS ‘68
Honorable Michael Michalak is a former Ambassador of the United States to Vietnam (2007-2011) and has served in multiple embassy roles to East Asia (2005-07), Tokyo (2003-05), and others, all as part of the United States State Department from 1971 to 2011. He was with NASA from 1969-1971.
In his current role as a consultant to Southeast Asia, he is helping build relationships with Vietnamese and Southeast Asian governments to establish companies in Vietnam as well as provide advice on trade issues, public relations and investment strategies.
While at State, he received Masters in Public Administration from John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, While at NASA, he received a Master of Science in Optical Physics from Catholic University.
He has been involved in several Oakland University related engagements including a current member of Oakland University Alumni Association Board and as part of Annual Woodcock Legacy Seminar since its inception in 1993. He received of Oakland University’s Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 2007. The award is Oakland’s highest alumni honor, recognizing peerless volunteer leadership in service to the university.
