Alison Powell is a poet and scholar. Her debut collection of poems, On the Desire to Levitate, was published by Ohio University Press in 2014. She has had poems published in journals such as Boston Review, AGNI, Guernica, Crazyhorse, and Black Warrior Review. She received her Ph.D. in English from the City University of New York Graduate Center. Her academic work focuses on the Romantic Poets.

Powell's first collection of poems, On the Desire to Levitate, was selected for the Hollis Summers Prize and was published by Ohio University Press in 2014. Individual poems have previously appeared in journals including AGNI, Boston Review, Black Warrior Review, Crazyhorse, New Orleans Review, Denver Quarterly, Puerto del Sol, Guernica, and others, and in anthologies such as Best New Poets 2006 and the Anthony Hecht Prize Anthology.
