Bunting and Briggs Freedom of the Press Scholarship

DescriptionA scholarship awarded to a student majoring in journalism who plans to work as a reporter upon graduation and is currently employed at least 20 hours per week at a professional newspaper or works for an Oakland University student newspaper in a staff writer or editor capacity. The recipient is selected by the Journalism faculty and the award amount varies. Awards are made by the Department of Communication and Journalism.

Donald C. Hildum Endowed Scholarship in Communication

DescriptionAwarded to communication students who demonstrate academic promise. Consideration is also given to students who contribute to university and community life and who demonstrate financial need.  To receive full consideration, it is recommended that students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Awards are made by the Department of Communication and Journalism. The award application is due February 21, 2014. See application form below.

French Tuition Award exists to encourage students to be active and involved in campus life and is especially interested in supporting Communication and Journalism majors in pursuit of meaningful internships. Oakland Press Scholarship

DescriptionScholarship of up to $3,000 awarded to a journalism major who is a junior and has a GPA above 3.00 and plans a career in print journalism. The award recognizes the work of the Department of Communication and Journalism in training journalists for future careers at daily newspapers such as The Oakland Press. Awards are made by the Department of Communication and Journalism.

Werner Holzbock Humanities Scholarship

DescriptionAwarded to OU Communication or Journalism majors with junior or senior standing (at least 56 credits, at least 16 of which were earned at OU) who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to the intellectual perspectives of the major. To receive full consideration, applicants must complete an application form and provide letters of recommendation from two department faculty members. Full details and the application form are available below. Applications are due to the department no later than February 21, 2014. Awards are made by the Department of Communication and Journalism.
