Hispanic Celebration 2013 @ Oakland University - September 13 – October 15

It is a long-standing tradition at Oakland University to recognize National Hispanic Celebration Month during the month of September to celebrate the history, politics and culture of Hispanic people, locally and globally. We hope that you enjoy the diverse programs being offered from September 13 through October 15 and encourage all OU students, faculty and staff to attend as many of this year’s programs and activities throughout the month as possible.

MAYDA DEL VALLE, POET AND PERFORMER Mayda Del Valle is a proud native of the South Side of Chicago. She has appeared on 6 episodes of Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam on HBO. Smithsonian Magazine chose her as one of “America’s Young Innovators in the Arts and Sciences” and Oprah’s O Magazine named her as one of 20 women for the first ever “O Power List.” In May of 2009 she was invited to perform at The White House for the President and First Lady.
