Compensation and Benefits Schedule
Compensation System
Faculty members are paid on a monthly basis. Checks are distributed the last working day of each month. While a faculty member’s payroll year is paid out over nine months, faculty can elect to have it paid out over twelve months.
Part-Time Employees and Researchers
Part-time employees and researchers are paid on a month-to-month basis.
Summer Teaching
Faculty members will be informed about their payroll timing based on the part of term assigned.
Full-Time Faculty Employees in Instructional Positions
Full-time faculty employees in instructional positions earn their salary from two days before the start of classes in the Fall semester until the last day of final exams in the Winter semester. However, this salary is paid out over a 9-month (August through April) or 12-month (August through July) cycle.

For Those Faculty Who Elect the 12-Month Pay Option Those employees who begin employment with Oakland University in the Fall semester (August) will begin receiving wages in August and will continue to receive monthly checks through the end of the academic year (July). Those employees who resign/retire at the end of the Fall semester (December) will be paid August through January of that academic year in order to receive one-half of their annual salary over six months. Those employees who resign/retire at the end of Winter semester (April) will be paid through July of that year in order to receive their full annual salary. Those full-time faculty employees in instructional positions who start during the year other than in August should have their hiring unit contact Academic Human Resources for clarification on pay schedules. |

- Benefits are paid on a month-to-month basis for qualifying part-time employees and researchers.
- Full-time regular and visiting faculty members receive benefits from September through August of each academic year.
- For regular and visiting faculty members who resign at the end of the Fall semester (December), benefits will continue through February.
- For regular and visiting faculty members who begin employment in January, benefits begin the 1st of February and continue through August.
