What's an Emergency?
The American College of Emergency Physicians encourages people to seek emergency care at the emergency center or call 911 if they have:
- difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
- chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure
- fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
- changes in vision
- confusion or changes in mental status
- any sudden or severe pain
- uncontrolled bleeding
- severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
- coughing or vomiting blood
- suicidal feelings
- difficulty speaking

Life Threatening Emergencies
- GHC is not equipped to handle a life threatening emergency.
- Call 3331 (campus phone) or (248) 370-3333 (cell phone) to alert OU police and give the exact location and nature of the emergency.
- If not on OU campus call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

COVID related concerns sent to GHC via email ([email protected]), telephone message, or via portal will NOT be monitored on weekends and holidays. GHC staff will respond the next business day.
If GHC is closed and your problem can not wait until we reopen, you may want to go to a local urgent care center.
Urgent condition that often can wait until morning include:
- earaches
- minor cuts/burns
- muscle sprains
- rashes
- colds
- cough
- sore throat
- flu
- most fevers
- skin infections

We recommend that you contact your insurance company prior to visiting an Urgent Care Center to verify coverage of the service you are seeking, as well as any co-pays or deductibles. Confirming this information in advance will help you avoid unforeseen charges.
To verify if your insurance is accepted:
- Call the member service information phone number on the back of your insurance card.
- Inform your insurance company of your plan to visit an urgent care center.
- Confirm your benefits and coverage for the specific service you are seeking.

Emergency contraception is used to help prevent pregnancy in women who have had unprotected sex (intercourse) or suspect failure in their current form of birth control (e.g. broken condom, missed birth control pill).
Two options are available:
1. Plan B
- Effective if taken within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected intercourse.
- Is available at Graham Health Center during normal business hours.
- No office visit is required unless you are under age 18.
- Cost is $18
- Picture ID is required.
- It is not intended to be used for routine birth control and will not stop an existing pregnancy.
2. Ella
- Effective if taken within 120 hours (5 days).
- By prescription only and available at Graham Health Center for $20.
- Office visit at GHC required ($30, if no insurance).
