HMO Information Sessions Coming in April
Important changes are coming to the staff HMO plans that will be offered in 2013. On April 24 representatives from our three HMOs, HAP, Blue Care Network and Priority Health, will be on campus to present information about the new 2013 "Outcomes Based" HMOs. Meetings will be held in Banquet Room A in the Oakland Center at 10:00 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. Representatives will be available after each meeting to answer your individual questions. Please take the time to attend one of the information sessions to learn about the new HMOs. You can sign up for the HMO Information meetings on the UHR Training website at Scroll down to University Human Resources and choose the "HMO 2013 Information Meeting" that works best for you. The meetings are open to all staff and faculty. The changes presented will apply to staff plans.

New ID Cards for Blue Cross Blue Shield Traditional, PPO and Vision Members
If you are a participant in one of the Blue Cross Blue Shield plans you will be receiving new ID cards in late April or early May. The Blue Cross Blue Shield plans involved include the Traditional Plan, PPO "A", PPO "B" and the BCBS Vision Plan. Blue Cross Blue Shield is making changes to their administrative system that require the issuance of new ID Cards. This change will not affect the coverage available in each plan.

Fidelity and TIAA-CREF On Campus
Representatives from TIAA-CREF will be available for one-on-one sessions on the following days:
  • Tuesday, April 24, 128 Oakland Center
  • Wednesday, April 25, 128 Oakland Center
  • Tuesday, May 22, 128 Oakland Center
  • Wednesday, May 23, 127 Oakland Center

Career Development – New Application – New Process – for Staff Requests Only
A new Career Development Application has been created. One application will now be used by employees, their dependent children, spouses, other qualified adults and children of other qualified adults. 2012 Performance Management Process
Friday, March 30, marked the end of the current performance cycle for non-bargained employee groups. As such, employees in these groups should start preparing end-of-cycle comments highlighting their work performance and identifying the goals they've attained in 2011-12. Monday, April 2, marked the beginning of the 2012-13 performance cycle, employees should also outline goals for the coming year in a new performance evaluation form.

This review process has a solid, positive impact on individual and university success because it promotes a positive understanding between employees and supervisors regarding acceptable job performance. The Performance Management Process is facilitated with the use of the TEAMS – the Total Employee and Management Source online system located at

The Performance Management section of the UHR website has been updated to reflect the new timeline. For employees who are new to this process or who would like a refresher course, training has been scheduled for April and May. Those interested should check the UHR Training site for details.

Academic HR is pleased to announce that the sabbatical request process will be available online for the Winter 2013 semester. The link to the online form will be included in the upcoming Call for Sabbaticals.

Time Management: Planning and Prioritizing Your Time
"So much to do, in so little time" is a quote that everyone can relate to. At one point or another you've undoubtedly had so many things that needed to be done at work, but not enough time to do them. This is where time management comes into play. This course is designed to help you plan and prioritize your time so that you complete all of your tasks before deadlines, and aren't completely stressed out during the process. It includes how to create clear, measurable goals that you can use to make a useful to-do list, in order for you to prioritize your workload. It will also show how sequencing and queuing tasks can help improve your time management, as well as explain ways to meet deadlines by estimating time frames for tasks. Overall the tips in this course should help put you on the right track to managing your time more effectively.
