As we inch ever closer to the opening of the 2013-14 academic year here at OU, faculty and staff should begin to formulate their on-campus commuting and parking plans.

Valuable information appeared in a recent News at OU article that detailed measures to address traffic and parking challenges brought on by ongoing construction projects. Among these are the creation of temporary parking lots, realignment of overnight parking areas, the addition of two vehicles to the Bear Bus system and traffic and parking direction from Oakland University Police Department and Facilities Management personnel.

The university has also finalized a parking and Bear Bus system map to assist members of the campus community in getting where they need to be as efficiently as possible this fall.

University communications staff will keep the campus community apprised of parking and traffic management information through the remainder of the summer and through the coming year. In addition to a variety of other communication channels, members of the campus community can always find information at and

Volunteers needed for Alternative 2013-2014 Academic Year Parking
As the university has communicated recently via email and the News at OU, a variety of temporary parking measures will be implemented over the coming year to address challenges posed by ongoing construction projects.

One measure is an option for employees to volunteer to park in the Meadow Brook Music Festival VIP lot (P-57) to help reduce the number of cars parking on main campus. Employees who participate in this program would be shuttled to and from main campus and would work an alternative schedule with slightly reduced work hours to accommodate the time spent on the shuttle. Employees wishing to participate in the parking incentive should discuss eligibility with their immediate supervisor by Friday, Aug. 16, 2013. Implementation and continuation of the parking incentive will be contingent on an adequate level of employee participation. More information...
