Tuesday, January 29, 2013 - OU Grizzly Telefund connects students and alumni, raises funds
By Alison Gaudreau, contributing writer

Every spring, Oakland University organizes a Grizzly Telefund designed to put current students in contact with alumni and friends of the university. It gives students an opportunity to connect with alumni and share the exciting things happening across campus.

The telefund also gives alumni a chance to verify their contact information ensure they receive the Oakland University Magazine.

Both students and alumni are excited about OU’s growth, so telefund callers will also update alumni on the need for support for scholarships, academic programs and student life programs.

“Alumni involvement and financial support for the programs they care most about has a tremendous impact at Oakland” said Angie Schmucker, interim director of annual giving. “Not only does their gift add to what we can accomplish for students, it also motivates others to give when we have strong alumni support.”

Schmucker noted that donors who give for three consecutive years automatically gain membership in the Oakland University Black & Gold Loyalty Society, regardless of the gift amount.

Students considering a career in communications, marketing, or philanthropy and who are eager to contribute to the growth of OU, can visit the OU Telefund website at to find out more about a job with the spring telefund. Students will have flexible schedules and earn $9 an hour, while building resume experience and communication skills.
