January 2014 Newsletter: Client Company Spotlight: Coliant Corporation to Diversify Through Recently Awarded Military Contract
Coliant Corporation, client company of the Macomb-OU INCubator, was awarded a contract with Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) for development of protective clothing for our war fighters.
Coliant’s high-tech heated garments were originally designed for commercial applications. This diversification to military occurred after a direct contact from Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), resulting in the contract. Jim Ruma, retired VP of Engineering at General Dynamics Land Systems and the current Macomb-OU INCubator Executive-in-Residence for military program development, assists Coliant as an advisor.
The cost-plus-fixed-fee contract has the potential to extend two additional years based on the results of the first tests, to be performed at the University of Montana.
"We sincerely appreciate all of the supportive resources offered in the Mound Road defense corridor, especially those at the Macomb-OU INCubator - these services are directly helping us to add jobs in our community," Adam Bonislawski, Coliant Sales Director, says.
“We commend Coliant for securing this important contract with SAIC that will benefit our war fighters and are confident that it will open up new doors and opportunities for them in the future,” Julie Gustafson, Macomb-OU INCubator executive director, says.
