By Kathleen Williams, contributing writer

Meadow Brook Theatre will host the 5th annual “Feet for Seats” fundraising event, a 5K run/walk on the campus of Oakland University on Sunday, August 18.

Check in begins at 8 a.m. at Meadow Brook Theatre. The event is open to all ages.

“Feet for Seats is an excellent way for people in our community to come out to support the arts and learn more about Meadow Brook Theatre,” said Dan Conway, event chair. “In addition to being a fun activity for the whole family, it’s a wonderful way to help raise funds in these difficult times.”

Registration is $25 in advance or $30 the day of the event, and is open online. Oakland University employees may participate for $20 and students in grades 6-12 in select Oakland County schools may register for $14.40.

Proceeds from the event will be used to fund operations for Meadow Brook Theatre, which is the state’s largest producing professional theatre. It has been located on Oakland’s campus since 1966.
“Fundraising events are vital to the success of Meadow Brook Theatre,” said Paige Vanzo, event co-char. “As a non-profit organization, we survive by the support of individuals and organizations and through fundraising efforts and events. Only about 40 percent of our yearly costs are covered by ticket sales.”

After the event, participants can enjoy family-friendly activities and performances by The Mike Duncan Band and The Peanut Gallery Players. There will also be prizes and free samples from sponsors such as Coldstone Creamery, Jimmy Johns and Whole Foods.

Participants will also be given early access to purchase individual tickets to Meadow Brook Theatre’s upcoming season. Single tickets, priced between $25-40, won’t be available to the general public until Monday, Sept. 9.
