Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, my objective in teaching is to see that all students are successful in learning the core outcomes of the class in a way that stimulates their critical thinking skills and enables them to engage in a non-threatening dialogic community. Because students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, it is important to me that all cultures are accepted and that students feel comfortable expressing their opinions and views. Students should come away from the class feeling as though they have made a difference by authoring important material and have learned to think critically. My classes are broken into learning communities engaging in dialogue and workshops that allow for constructive criticism and support both from their peers and from me.

Marilyn Borner has been teaching at Oakland University since 2007.
